When I first heard that my coworker, Marianne, was getting married in Cape Town in April, I knew I would like to make a trip out of it. We weren’t very close back then, but we had worked with each some, and we shared some friends. I didn’t want her to think I had plans of crashing her wedding, so Mit and I discussed our plans. Then I went to let her know that we would be adding Cape Town to our African Adventure, and we would love to hang out while we were there, but we were not expecting to attend or anything. I don’t really know why I even brought this up. I was worried she would hear that we were coming to town and think we were sneaking in or something.
Anyhow, as the date came closer, we were invited to a dinner in Bahrain to celebrate the wedding with coworkers. We headed to Senor Pacos not knowing what exactly to expect. There was music and Mexican food and of course margaritas. After several pitchers, Mit, Antoine and I were discussing the South African trip. Then Marianne came over and asked us why we weren’t coming to the wedding. I explained that we didn’t want to crash. Well then I found out that we were in fact invited. This was a game changer. One more pitcher of margaritas and then Mit and I took the plunge and changed our flights to stay for the wedding. I guess the kids these days say YOLO… right?
